The BioDBMS project was started following the issues and concerns faced by Malaysian taxonomists with regards to data management and inventory. The conventional approach of getting computer scientists to help the experts in developing personalised databases of their collections poses many problems especially in providing continuous support. The BioDBMS allows biologists to develop their own data portal according to the standard naming convention, Darwin Core. Biologists can develop and share their data with their collaborators easily via a user friendly interface. We are now testing the beta version which is being continuously enhanced to meet the needs of the taxonomists. This project is envisaged to fit into a bigger motive which is building a Malaysian Biodiversity Portal.
